SMALL MAGIC
by contemplativeinquiry
Feeling refreshed and inspired after a contemplative day retreat yesterday. The day included a session on contemplative drawing led by artist and illustrator Tom Brown*.
The session mostly involved playing with charcoal under Tom’s twinkly enabling eye. This freed me up in a number of ways and towards the end of the session I changed medium and wrote this poem.
Treescape after rain
Blue
behind
these pinpricks of light
In a pattern of Michaelmas leaves
Still lush and green
for now.
Heartache
In a good way.
Nothing lost, exactly, or forgotten,
But a poignant, fragile sense.
Such vulnerability.

Thanks Elaine. The team did well yesterday, I reckon.
Love the idea of contemplative drawing, particularly with Tom Brown 🙂
We’ll be continuing with these sessions on at least some of our contemplative retreat days – and Tom may also offer them independently. He does a lovely job. Thanks also for your speedy dispatch of my order for The Broken Cauldron, which I will begin reading today – looking forward to that. I would hope to review it during the course of this month.
Thank yoou for sharing
You are welcome, Evan.
